#FridayReads: January 6,2017 (Harry Potter & The Book of Joy)

Happy Friday,

I don’t think that I have been more excited for the weekend than I am today. Just one more work shift and you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be tucked in bed either reading or napping. Napping will probably over rule though.

But, without further or due let me share with you what I plan on reading this weekend.

Firstly, I would like to make a 100 page progress in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Like I said in previous posts, I have been loving the writing in this novel. It is so beautiful and I can’t help but find myself lost in the story only to look up and see that an hour or two has past by.

Secondly, I started reading an AMAZING book called “The Book of Joy”, by the Dali Lama and Desmond Tutu. I have been feeling rather lost and sad the past week. the-book-of-joyAn bookstagram account called Artria Books, which is a publishing branch of Penguin, posted a picture of the book with a quote that went like this ” Everyday is a new opportunity to begin again. Every day is your birthday.” This quote spoke volumes to me, I had this urge to rush out and buy the book.It was as if the Dalai Lama and the Archbishop had something they need to share with me.

So, far this book has made me cry, pretty much on every page. This book is a conversation that occurred between the Archbishop and the Dalai Lama, although they believe in different faiths they both have devoted a lifetime to worlds happiness. This book shows how they have found happiness themselves and although they both have been in such tragic situations they have never lived a more happier and fulfilled life. Its inspiring, beautiful and a ray of hope that I personally needed this week.

This week Friday reads is one of my favorite books, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

He wants to find out about the mysterious event that supposed to take place at Hogwarts this year, an event involving two other rival schools of magic, and a competition that hasn’t happened for hundreds of years. He wants to be a normal, fourteen-year-old wizard. But unfortunately for Harry Potter, he’s not normal – even by wizarding standards.

Bookish Thoughts:

I have read this book so many times. I think it is my favorite one in this series. I remember that when this series first came out, I used to go to the library and before reading this first three books of the series I would start with this one because it was the largest one at the time, and it made me feel studious to read such a large book.

Fast- forward years later, I consider Harry Potter to be my comfort blanket. It always brings me comfort to go back to Hogwarts and reconnect with the characters. It makes the troubles I seem to be having in my personal life seem so small and meaningless.

Also, this is my read for Harry X-mas, which I participate in every year. Its a read-a-thon hosted on twitter, which takes place throughout the month of December. Winter, isn’t winter without hot chocolate and a few chapters of Harry Potter.

The Bad Beginning |Currently Reading

I started to reread the unfortunate events series on my kindle and it was probably one of the best decisions I have recently made. The Bad beginning is very intriguing and there are a lot of details I seemed to miss the first time I read this book back in 5th grade. Its been a while, but I am immensely enjoying my experience with this book.

I’m sorry to say that the book you are holding in your hands is extremely unpleasant. It tells an unhappy tale about three very unlucky children. Even though they are charming and clever, the Baudelaire siblings lead lives filled with misery and woe. From the very first page of this book when the children are at the beach and receive terrible news, continuing on through the entire story, disaster lurks at their heels. One might say they are magnets for misfortune.

In this short book alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, and cold porridge for breakfast.
It is my sad duty to write down these unpleasant tales, but there is nothing stopping you from putting this book down at once and reading something happy, if you prefer that sort of thing.

#Friday Reads October 14,2016 |Las Vegas Weekend

Hey Bibliomaniacs,

The past few weeks we can say were a little hectic. School has been kicking my butt. But, I am hanging in there, strong as always. So, since I am take a much need vacation to relax, rejuvenate, eat some junk food, and spend time with my best friend. I figured this week is going to be a very laid back Friday reads.

The book I will be reading this week is: The Girl On the Train by Paula Hawkins. I bought last week when I was getting my car serviced and didn’t have anything to read. Needless to say this is one purchase I do not regret. The first 100 pages were EXCELLENT!!!

#FridayReads: Lady Midnight

It is 17 minutes into Saturday, and I realized I didn’t post my #Fridayreads up yet. I have been reading Lady Midnight, by Cassandra Clare. I am Lady Midnightabout 54% of the way through the book.

I have been realizing a few things that have changed in my reading process. The major change is I enjoy reading from E-books, way more than reading a physical copy. Secondly, I read a lot faster when I read an e-book. As much as I love how my books look on my shelf, I am very much enjoying the process of reading e-books. One thing I love about E-books is that amazon offers very cheap audiobooks of the books you buy as e-books. This is especially awesome if you re reading thicker books like “A Game of Thrones”.

My Bookish Thoughts:

I hope to read at least 200 hundred pages of “Lady Midnight”, this weekend. As of today, I have read 83 pages. The book is really picking up, and I am very much enjoying the setting of the story as it is set in L.A. I think that the character development although rapid, it is really interesting and engaging to see how the characters deal with certain situations. Also, there is a lot of suspense and mystery in the plot. I’m enjoying all the forbidden love aspects in this book, and find it to be very fast paced and entertaining.

#Friday Reads 8/12/16 |Ventura, California Edition

There is no #Fridayreads video this week, for I am currently out of the town, visiting the lovely city of Ventura, California and  I didn’t have time this week to pre-film it. However, I do want to share what I will be reading this weekend.

I have finally started reading the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, the book that I am reading is the first installment called Obsidian. This was very popular within the book-tube community in the summer of 2013. I decided to give it a go. I have about 72 pages left in the novel and I have been really enjoying reading it off my kindle. However, I definitely have my share of issues with it. I will share them with you in my wrap-up.

Since I only have about 72 pages left in this book and I will be staying in tonight I feel like I will have not problem finishing this book. So, now I know there is a burning question in you. Why Marina, what will you be reading after you are done with “Obsidian”?

When I finish “Obsidian” I would love to start reading “Lady Midnight” by Cassandra Clare. I have been dying to start this one since it came out and I am finally caught up with this series.

I am extremely excited about this installment. I have only heard really good things about it and I think that vacation time is the best time to start a very thick book.

I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend and getting plenty of reading in. Look forward to a travel vlog possibly in the near future. I would love to vlog this vacation. Although, today was a bit stressful of a start with a clogged toilet at the place we are staying but, I declare the rest of the trip to be delightful. I can’t wait to connect with my best friend who is coming to visit. And my dear ol’ pops is meeting us in Ventura as well.

Its that time of the week again, Bibliomanics. Happy Friday! We worked hard and now its time for a little break. Here is what I will be reading this weekend.

Last week  in my #Fridayreads I talked about Scarlet by Marissa Meyer. I planned on finishing it up last weekend but unfortunately I didn’t get a chance too. The new goal is to finish it by tomorrow night, because I would like to review it this weekend

I am very much enjoying it. So, far nothing that I predicted to happen actually happened. There is so much suspense going on and I am just dying to find out how the story is going to conclude.

I have been trying to read a little each night before bed, but I have been going to bed really tired that the moment my head hits the pillow I am out like a light. So, now I  schedule a designated time in the morning after I get off work to read whether that be 15 minutes or an hour. I make sure some reading is being done.

Also, if you follow me on goodreads, you may have noticed that I am also reading  “Clockwork Princess”, by Cassandra Clare. I have been listening to the audiobook for about a month or two, anytime I’m driving anywhere or doing some housework I just put it on. I have been extremely enjoying it. It is the 3 book in the Infernal Devices series. This book I think is
my favorite in the series. It had so many feels, and swoon worthy moments. It also contains a very interesting love triangle, add a few demons, and scientific inventions and this book is difficult to put down. I have been extremely enjoying it.

I haven’t done one of these post in a while. But, here is what I plan on reading this weekend. I hope to finish it by Monday, so I can start “Cress” the 3rd book in the Lunar Chronicles next week.

#Fridayreads(7/3/15) – A Game of Thrones

Hey Bibliomaniacs,

I hope you all had a wonderful Friday, and are ready for the July 4th weekend. My Friday, was spent watching pixel movies, cleaning the house and taking naps. But, no Friday is complete without a #Fridayreads. This weekend I plan on trying to read at least 200 pages of “A Game of Thrones,” by George R.R. Martin. I have been really enjoying it so far. It is an extremely long book that I commiA Game of Thronestted myself too. But, on a positive note I am almost done. I have only 361 pages left to go and if you really think about that is normally what an average young adult book is.

I won’t set my hopes too high though. So, I will not say I’ll be finishing this, this weekend. I have a tendency of reading about 15 pages in a sitting, sometimes 50 at most. So, this book will definitely take a couple of sittings to read.

Also, the other day I started reading “Ms.Marvel” off of “Marvel Unlimited”. I have been enjoying it and I can’t wait to see what adventures Ms.20898019 Marvel will go on. One thing that I really like is that this comic book has a few Marvel characters introduced in it as part of the back story. The story is extremely fun to read and it also touches on culture diversity which I have been really enjoying reading about.

So, the final goal for the weekend is basically just getting through the end of “A Game of Thrones”. Hopefully, I will be able to make some progress in it. I would also like the next few issues of “Ms. Marvel” (3 through 5).
